The unstoppable gacha machine continues with the launch of Ash Echoes this week, which borrows an awful lot of inspiration from Fantasian. You may not have played that, as very few did, but come December you will see what we mean. It’s that drag and drop battle system that does it.
But we digress. You have arrived here as you’re looking for a tier list to help you out together a party of the best characters. Well, that’s where we come in. We’ve put together a list of the best characters in order of 1 to 5 to help you pick.
Ash Echoes Tier List
Here’s how we’d rank the current Ash Echoes characters. We recommend filling your party with tiers 1 – 3, using characters from the higher tiers as you unlock them.
Ignore the characters in tiers 4 and 5 unless you can’t help it.
Tier | Character |
1 | Cen Ying |
2 | Caroline, Longqing, Hassel, Ivana, Luke, Mo Hongxiu, Sambheka, Sephonis, Tong |
3 | Cyros, Furay and Furney, Lorelle |
4 | Aceo, Begonia, Bellia, Felicio, Freda, Gina, Lydia, Pris, Roar, Shiratori Azusa, Reid, Shu, Xiangling, Yuqi, |
5 | Bubbles, Changyao, Di Yan, Emaha, Gauya, Huo Ran, Infa, Lanlan, Mars, Ms. Lew, Rodney, Tian Ruo |
The Best Echomancers
You think we’re just going to throw a tier list in your face and leave it at that, eh? No, here’s how we’ve chosen the above characters. We’ll focus on tier 1 and 2 as those are our favourites. Besides, there’s only 1 tier 1.

Cen Ying
It’s no surprise that Cen Ying is the featured six star Echomancer. This is a pretty standard gacha game trick: release an OP character that everyone wants and make it the featured gacha.
Cen Ying is just an all-round solid character, capable of summoning drones, damaging enemies in an AoE, and placing a whole ship on the battlefield that wrecks everyone.
You just need Cen Ying on your team during the most challenging encounters.

Caroline
Caroline is a beast of a support unit that throws incredibly powerful potions that simultaneously debuff opponents and buff up allies. This will keep you in the fight while your opponents will go down faster.
She’s not a direct healer, but her Goodspeed Potion will restore your ally’s HP.

Longqing
Longqing is easily our favourite direct support character in the game so far. She can basically keep shields up on Echomancers permanently, reducing the damage you take considerably.
Her healing ability is also incredible, so if the shields do drop, your health will remain topped up long enough for her to place them back up again.
If you’re struggling, pop Longqing in your party and watch how much easier the game gets.

Hassel
Looking for strong single target DPS to take down that challenging boss? Whack Hassel in your team. This unit packs a serious punch, whittling down your opponent’s HP with ease.
He’s less useful against a group, hence the tier 2 placement.

Mo Hongxiu
Mo Hongxiu is just an utter beast of a tank, who can keep enemies locked close to her while maintaining shields on herself to keep her alive.
She doesn’t even bother with taunting. Why, when you can just prevent your enemies from moving entirely?
Definitely use Mo Hongxiu against groups.

Ivana
Ivana is basically the AoE variant of Hassel. Her DPS is just utterly bonkers and makes bringing down a group look as easy as breathing.
You will need to use her actively to make the most out of her though. Her abilities require quite careful placement to take down as many enemies at once.

Luke
Luke is an intriguing unit that can do a bit of it all. He specialises in DPS, but is a dab hand at plonking barriers down and preventing projectile attacks.
Think of him as a hybrid off-DPS/off-Support. He can fulfil either role, and is a great option to pad out a party lacking in either.

Sambheka
Sambheka is similar to Caroline in that she’s part DPS, part Support. She flings out AoE elemental attacks with wild abandon that both debuff opponents and buff allies.
She does need a bit of mastery to get the most out of, but she fills a great gap in a party.

Sephonis
Sephonis is like an ever so slightly weaker Cen Ying, who specialises in summoning and keeping your opponents locked down with steady damage.
She shines as she’s a little easier to unlock than Cen Ying, so you’re more likely to get her. Add her to your team, then swap her out for Cen if you manage to get her later on.

Tong
Last, but certainly not least, is Tong, our favourite backline offensive unit in the game.
He’s a bit of a cross between Luke, Caroline, and Cen Ying in that he deals decent DPS, can support allies with shields, and can self-heal.
