Throne and Liberty doesn’t have classes per se, but it does feature a semblance of a class system thanks to the various weapons you can unlock. Each weapon functions like a different MMO archetype, including DPS, tank, and healer.
You can mix and match any two in combat to effectively create your own class or play style, which is our favourite feature of the new MMORPG. But which weapon fulfils which role? That’s a difficult question to answer when you’re just starting out.
That’s where our classes guide comes in. Here, we’re going to break down the play styles for each weapon and explain what sort of class archetype they fall into. That way, you can develop your own class before you dive in.

Sword and Shield
- Class: Tank and CC
Sword and Shield fulfils your classic sword and board-wielding tank archetype in Throne and Liberty. You can taunt, stun, and push back enemies to control the crowd, keeping your more vulnerable party members safe.

Greatsword
- Class: Melee DPS
Greatsword is a melee DPS powerhouse. You can stun, buff your allies, dish out ridiculous damage, and debuff opponents. If you’ve played a Warrior class in an MMORPG and want something familiar, this is the weapon to aim for.

Long Bow
- Class: Ranged DPS and CC
The Long Bow is a great class for those that like to fly solo, as you can sit back from a safe distance, debuff opponents, and buff yourself. It’s also super useful when part of a team though, as you can mark opponents to increase the damage you collectively deal to them, and it even has crowd control to boot.

Crossbow
- Class: Ranged DPS
Crossbow doubles down on raw damage, with most of its skills designed for DPS output. You can still have some fun by weakening opponents, setting traps, and buffing your attack speed. If you just want to sit back and decimate opponents, leaving the hard work and strategy to your party, pick the Crossbow.

Wand and Tome
- Class: Healer and Debuffer
The Wand and Tome is a hybrid between a typical Cleric/healer class or Warlock/debuffer. It’s also just awesome to look at. You can create defensive barriers, debuff opponents with a wide variety of effects, and heal party members. It’s a less useful weapon for the solo player, unless you’re happy swapping back and forth to it as needed, but it’s an essential pick when in a group.

Staff
- Class: Ranged Magic DPS
As you can probably guess, the Staff lets you get your Gandalf on. It’s all about the ranged DPS, using magic. Chuck fireballs about, cast lightning, and debuff enemies using ice. If you like using the power of elements to destroy your opponents from a safe distance, grab yourself a staff.

Dagger
- Class: Melee DPS
Daggers fulfil the Rogue/Assassin archetype, and are all about approaching combat from a stealthy perspective, and devastating any foes that are unfortunate enough to come close. You can debuff, deal exceptional critical hits, and even recover your health vampire-style.
