So, you want to build some defenses in 99 Nights in the Forest? Trust me, you’re not alone. The first few nights aren’t too bad, but once cultists start pouring in and wildlife decides your campfire looks tasty, you’ll wish you had walls and traps up yesterday. That’s where Defense Blueprints come in.

The problem is, the game doesn’t exactly hand them out like candy. Here’s how you can get Defense Blueprints in 99 Nights in the Forest.

How to Get Defense Blueprints in 99 Nights in the Forest

The easiest way by far is to just buy the Base Defender class. After the Owl update on August 8, 2025, the devs added this class to the Daily Class Shop for 40 Diamonds.

If you pick it, you automatically start with a Defense Blueprint in your gear. If you’ve got the Diamonds, do this first. It’s hands-down the most reliable method.

If you don’t want to spend Diamonds, then you’ll have to rely on good old exploration.

Defense Blueprints can show up in chestboxes, especially the ones tucked away in risky areas or caves guarded by stronger enemies. Some players say certain enemies or waves can drop them too, but honestly that feels way rarer.

I’ve had way better luck opening every chest I stumble across. The downside is you’ll probably die a few times trying, because those caves are rough and the enemies guarding the good loot hit like trucks.

Once you do have a blueprint, that’s when the real fun starts. Playing as Base Defender lets you level up by building defenses and getting kills with them, which makes your structures stronger over time.

A couple of lessons I learned the hard way: don’t waste defenses everywhere, focus on choke points around your campfire, and always prioritize upgrades.

A basic wooden barricade isn’t going to cut it once the harder nights start rolling in, but upgraded ones can actually hold the line. Traps also work best if you place them where enemies naturally funnel in, so keep experimenting with placement.

If you’re struggling, my advice is simple. Just unlock the Base Defender class as soon as you can.

Forty Diamonds isn’t too tough to grind, and it saves you from a lot of frustration. If you really want to roll the dice, go hunting for chests, but don’t do it with a backpack full of items you can’t afford to lose.

I learned that lesson the painful way. Getting a Defense Blueprint early changes everything, so grab one however you can and start building smart defenses around your fire. Your future self will thank you when the cultists show up.
