During Sony’s September State of Play, we got a first glimpse at ArchAge Chronicles, a full-blown sequel to the original. It also looks a heck of a lot like Crimson Desert – so much so that we assumed that’s what it was right until we learned the name.
The trailer didn’t reveal much aside from its visual prowess, story beats that pad out the world of ArchAge, and mounts that help you get around at a faster pace.
We’ve since learned that it features player housing front and centre and that it will, indeed, be an MMORPG. Kakao Games promises to take the genre to the next level with its first sequel in the series.
ArchAge Chronicles Looks Awfully Familiar
In terms of aesthetic, it combines the dark fantasy of Elden Ring, with a good measure of inspiration from The Witcher and The Lord of the Rings universes respectively.
Combat is where those Crimson Desert-stylings come from, featuring flashy skills, dodging, and dashing. There seems to be a wide variety of weapons, too, from nippy daggers, to gigantic warhammers, and an axe and shield, which sits in between the two.

We also see a one-handed sword, crossbow, and, for the wizards amongst you, a staff. This produces some wonderful lightning attacks that would make even the likes of Gandalf blush.
It Serves as a Prequel to the MMORPG
In terms of plot, it takes place 50 years before the events of the first entry. You play as a member of a trading company who quickly becomes tasked with investigating an airship crash. This will take you on an adventure across Auroria, into crumbling ruins, stunning forests, and everything in between.

ArchAge Chronicles will launch on Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation, and Xbox, and you can wishlist it right now. You can learn more about the game on the official PlayStation Blog.
