It was introduced as a part of the April Fool’s update on April 1 and thankfully, it is particularly beneficial for those players who are running low on money during their exploration.
Therefore, here’s a quick guide on how to obtain Fool’s Gold in Dead Rails.
Where To Find Fool’s Gold Item in Dead Rails
As the name suggests, Fool’s Gold can only be found in the Fool’s Gold game mode. You should avoid visiting minor structures because they typically lack valuable items. The highest probability of discovering fool’s gold exists in towns; thus, you should always visit these locations. Make sure you investigate any mineshaft that comes across your path.
When you reach a town, prepare for some action. You’ll likely encounter enemies that will lock onto you, so be ready to fight. While the smaller houses have a lower chance of containing Fool’s Gold, the larger houses, especially the ones toward the end of the town, have a much higher chance of spawning it.
As you explore, look for Fool’s Gold and collect as much as possible. Once you’ve gathered enough, head to the trading post to sell it.
Selling Fool’s Gold is a gamble, it can drop random items, including money, bonds, and sometimes, a key. However, be cautious. The Fool’s Gold can also spawn enemies or harmful items, so when selling, throw it down and back up quickly.
Once you’ve sold enough, you should hopefully obtain the Large Mysterious Key. This key is essential for skipping a large portion of the run and reaching the final part of the challenge.
With the key in hand, proceed to the final section of the game. If you have a horse, use it, it will make this part much easier.
At the final area, snipe all enemies at the top before moving in. If your aim isn’t great, take your time picking off the outlaws from a distance using a rifle. There will be a few outlaws on each side, but they are easy to eliminate.
Once you’ve cleared all enemies, grab the Fool’s Key and proceed to the large locked door.
Use the Fool’s Key to unlock the final door. Once you place the key, you’ll see the notification: “Fool’s Gold Completed, 2025 April Fool’s Challenge”.
