Motifs are a brand new feature that the development team introduced in Deepwoken as part of the early February 2025 major update. It’s basically a system that allows you to transfer a critical attack between weapons, with certain restrictions.
Deepwoken Motifs Guide
What Are Motifs?
Motifs are a new system in Deepwoken that allows you to extract the critical attack from one weapon and give it to another.
There are some restrictions though:
- You can only apply the motif to a similar weapon type (so, a spear’s critical can only be applied to another spear) with certain exceptions
- Divine weapons can’t equip a motif
- Weapons with unique criticals cannot equip a motif
To be sure that your weapon can equip a motif, check it in the campfire menu. If it’s applicable, it will have a motif slot.
How to Extract a Motif
It’s surprisingly easy. All you have to do is use a Smith’s Alloy on one of the compatible weapons below, then select the ‘Extract Motif’ option.
Bear in mind that this will completely destroy the weapon, and you will get a Formless Shard that you can apply to another weapon to equip the motif.
You can equip it directly from your inventory or use the campfire menu.
