Final Fantasy 14 is officially coming to mobile, though perhaps not in the way you’d hope. Rather than a direct port, we’re getting a version built from the ground up for the platform.

But, before you despair, it’s in development at Lightspeed Studios. Why should that matter? Because those are the folks that crafted PUBG Mobile, a very faithful recreation of the PC and console shooter you know and love.

What’s FFXIV Mobile?

If the trailer is anything to go by, FFXIV Mobile looks set to follow in PUBG Mobile’s footsteps. After a brief into by FFXIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida, we get a glimpse at Eorzea as it will appear on mobile.

The first look primarily focuses on various characters exploring Limsa Lominsa and Ul’dah. We also get a look at how the various different races will appear, as well as class and armour designs.

We do finally get a combat showcase at the end, and, admittedly, it doesn’t look quite as flashy.

What Does Naoki Yoshida Have to Say?

Yoshida begins by thanking you, the players, for supporting the game since its rebirth 11 years ago. He then goes on to claim that the mobile version is here to help the team “prepare to face new challenges in the next decade.”

We then learn that FFXIV Mobile is a new version, built specifically for phones. However, Yoshida is keen to stress that Lightspeed will rebuild everything for mobile, bringing the story, content, and combat system over intact.

When Will FFXIV Mobile Arrive?

In terms of a release date, both Square Enix and Lightspeed Studios have remained tightly-lipped. There isn’t even a hint of one in the trailer, official site, or any of the social media channels.

You can sign up to learn more as soon as news drops on the official site. We also recommend following the game on X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok to keep updated.
