The wait to have Fortnite back to the iOS App Store continues but now, it has taken a new turn.
On Tuesday, May 14, Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, also confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that the company has pulled-back the previously submitted iOS version of Fortnite, and has submitted a new one for review.
The reason? A mandatory weekly content update that must go live at one go throughout all platforms this coming Friday.
“We need to put out a weekly Fortnite update with new content this Friday and all the platforms need to update at the same time. So we have withdrawn the old version of Fortnite that was submitted to Apple App Review on Friday and submitted a new version for review.” Sweeney wrote.
The update creates a new level to the already existing standoff between Epic Games and Apple. Last week, Epic re-submitted Fortnite for App Store approval on May 9, four years after it was removed from the platform amid a fight over in-app purchases.
With the Apple guideline indicating that majority of reviews do not exceed 24 hours, Fortnite was left in the dark for more than 100 hours, without any public response from Apple.
Sweeney first posted that there was “no news” from Apple, which created industry speculation as to whether the delay was another sign of another potential rejection.
The new resubmission of the game has now reset the clock on the review process that may further delay the game’s return.
For those who are impatiently waiting for the game’s iOS comeback, the current situation is still aggravatingly vague.
Although the resubmission was needed in order to preserve the live service schedule of Fortnite, Apple’s silence leaves questions as to whether the game will be approved on time or not.
So far, there is no official word from Apple.
