Update: Fortnite OG: Chapter 1, Season 1 is officially live! You can now turn the clock back to 2017 in-game and play almost the exact same experience as when you first booted up Fortnite.

We say almost, as there are a few changes versus the actual OG version of Fortnite. Scroll down to our original post below to get an idea.

Original post: We’ve known about Fortnite OG for some time now, but Epic has just confirmed an aspect we weren’t sure of: that it’s a permanent new mode, and it’s here to stay.

So, when Fortnite OG finally kicks off tomorrow, December 6, it will be just like when the battle royale servers first went live a whopping seven years ago. Season 1, and all of its content, will be waiting for you.

So it’s Fortnite Exactly as it Was in 2017?

Well, not exactly. Solos and Squads launch alongside it, as does Zero Build (thank the lord!). Each season is also shorter than back in the day, with the first ending on January 31.

Building and traversal mechanics, like sliding, mantling, bashing doors, and moving while healing, will also remain the same across the current and OG modes. That’s reasonably controversial, but not entirely unwelcome.

But the original map, weapons pool, and season pass cosmetics are exactly as you remember.

What’s the Fortnite OG Weapons Pool?

In case you can’t quite recall it, here’s the list of weapons you can use in Fortnite OG:

  • Assault Rifle
  • Burst Assault Rifle
  • Scoped Assault Rifle
  • Pump Shotgun
  • Tactical Shotgun
  • Pistol
  • Revolver
  • Submachine Gun
  • Tactical Machine Gun
  • Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
  • Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle
  • Grenade Launcher
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Damage Trap
  • Ceiling Zapper
  • Wall Dynamo

How deliciously simple is that? Gone are the Marvel and Star Wars weapons and, in their place, is a list of traditional guns.

What’s in the Fortnite OG Pass?

The Pass provides 45 tiers of rewards to unlock, including the original cosmetics from back in the day.

If you’ve unlocked these before, fear not: there’s an alternate style for each of them, so there’s plenty of reason to revisit.

The classic outfits include:

  • Renegade Rebel
  • Aerial Assault Bomber
  • Skull Commander

What’s Next For Fortnite OG?

Season 2 will likely arrive at the beginning of February, shortly after Season 1 ends on January 31. In fact, it might even arrive that very day.

Ranked Mode will likely arrive before then. Sadly, it couldn’t make the cut at launch.

Epic Games has also announced Fortnite OG Cups for those that like a bit of competitive action. There won’t be prizes like in regular Fortnite tournaments (at least yet) though.
