Fortnite now lets players chat with an AI version of Darth Vader.
This new system is using tools from Google Gemini and ElevenLabs to make the voice of the Star Wars villain sound real in Fortnite.
Right now, only Darth Vader is being tested for this new feature. Players can talk to him by using their voice or typing messages, and he will answer them. The AI will also respond to things that happen during the game. The system that keeps him running is called “Redwood.”
What Can AI Darth Vader Do in Fortnite?
- Join or leave your squad
- Respond when he tries to talk to you
- Say things by himself without people having to ask him first
- Summarize what’s happening in the game
- Warn you about danger
If the AI sees a player looking sad or worried, it will say things like:
“You are valued, Trooper. Seek assistance from the authorities. Your well-being is paramount.”
Rules and Limits
To keep things safe and friendly for every player, there are a few things Vader isn’t allowed to do:
- He can’t talk about things like V-Bucks or money
- He can’t use bad language
- He can’t talk about anything that isn’t Disney or Star Wars
- He can’t sing unless it’s a Disney or Star Wars song
- He can’t talk about hurting kids or anything dangerous
- He cannot talk romantically with anyone on the team
Also, kids need their parents to give permission before they can connect to their friends on this app.
This new update shows us a bit of what Fortnite might be like if they start using AI in the game. Instead of being just decorations, these characters can now talk and respond to you.
This could have a big impact on Fortnite. Enjoy the idea of Spider-Man offering you advice on swinging, and Optimus Prime shouting out where the enemy is. It could make playing Solo Queue more enjoyable for some, or help new players pick up the game quicker.
Here Are Some Characters That Would Work Wonderfully if Epic Adds AI Features:
- Jonesy sharing suggestions for completing missions and offering funny jokes
- Grande’s singing playing in the background as you go through the store
- Iron Man suggesting strategies (and being sarcastic)
- Goku hyping you up mid-fight
