The Zen update marks the addition of many new pets in Grow a Garden, one of which is Tanuki. It is a legendary creature that has been introduced to provide massive buffs to your garden with a little bit of surprises. So, unlike some other pets, the Tanuki is actually here to help you grow your garden and of course, you can enjoy its cuteness.
So, without further ado, here’s a quick explanation of what Tanuki does in Grow a Garden.
What Does Tanuki Do in Grow a Garden

Primarily, Tanuki is known for its special perk that grants random benefits to your garden after every 10 minutes. Although you may not find them beneficial if you’re just getting started but those who own a massive garden will definitely feel the importance of Tanuki in Grow a Garden. Here’s how.
- Tanuki will help you in expanding your inventory by extracting gears or shuckles when it’s active.
- Just like many other pets, Tanuki will also impose special mutations to your plant such as Tranquil, Choco, Moonlet, Bloodlet, and Pollinated. Normally, getting these mutations isn’t a piece of cake so you’ll definitely need a Tanuki in the game.
- XP is everything in the game and Tanuki is here to help you by giving you an XP bonus, meaning you will level up faster while this pet is active.
- Finally, Tanuki reduces waiting time for certain tasks.
However, keep in mind that all four benefits that Tanuki provide are random. In my opinion, these random benefits will keep things exciting. In other words, you never know what Tanuki will do next, but it’s always something good. It rewards you for simply having it in your garden and checking in regularly.
How To Get Tanuki in Growa Garden
Pets normally hatch from eggs and Tanuki is no different. You can get Tanuki by hatching a Zen Egg. These eggs have about a 20% chance of containing a Tanuki which means it might take a few tries to get one.
Zen Eggs are available during Zen events, and you can buy them using Chi or Robux. This makes Tanuki a bit of a rare find, but definitely worth the effort.
If you’re someone who plays regularly or focuses on plant mutations, it’s a good idea to save up for Zen Eggs during events. Even if you don’t get Tanuki right away, the other items or pets you might get can still help you grow.
