Finally, an interesting use case for AI. Nvidia is currently teasing a proposed new feature for PUBG that would see you work alongside your very own AI companion.
The proposed feature is going by the working title ‘Co-Playable Character’ or ‘CPC’ for short. If the teaser trailer is anything to go by, you can suggest strategies to employ just like you would an actual player.
What is the CPC?
While we’re a little sceptical that the actual ally would be this smart, in the trailer we see it being enormously helpful. The player asks them to locate gear for them, and they track it down and ping it.
We then see the AI ally ping an enemy, rush off to find a vehicle, and then help the player make a quick getaway.
When the player is ready to get back into the fight, they suggest that the ally flank the enemy, which he does immediately, but he then gets taken out. Happens to the best of us.
Naturally, the team ends up winning for dramatic effect.
Could the PUBG Ally Make it Into the Final Game?
We’d argue there’s a great chance this could make it into the game as part of a limited time, or perhaps even permanent mode.
But as an optional extra, it’s a tough sell. Not only is there a healthy dose of scepticism of AI, but it’s got to be difficult to balance.
Will it get greenlit? Well, Krafton’s official response is that it’s “yet to be officially greenlit’ and that it’s “based on ongoing R&D efforts.”
So, given that Krafton itself is promoting it via a trailer from Nvidia, we’d argue that’s a sign it’s in serious consideration.
Where Can I Learn More About CPC?
