The Rocket League 2.46 patch notes are in, and they point to exciting times ahead for your favourite blend of cars and football.
There’s the introduction of ‘Online Free Play; for those that want to play a more chill match with your friends at a distance. Choose from Soccar, Dropshot, Hoops, and Snow Day, as well as any arena to play in.
Speaking of which, there’s a new one of those too. The Neo Tokyo (Arcade) variant is suitably futuristic, with neon high score-themed lights splashed onto the walls.
Let’s take a look at the full patch notes.

Online Free Play Arrives in Rocket League
We’re not sure what took Psyonix so long, but you can finally enjoy Free Play online. Simply invite up to seven friends to play Soccar, Dropshot, Hoops, or Snow Day in any arena.
There are a ton of controls to customise the experience, including boost options, goal reset, and ball manipulation controls.
If you’re concerned about privacy, you can lock down the session with a name and password.

New Arena: Neo Tokyo (Arcade)
Neo Tokyo’s had a bit of a makeover with update 2.46, which draws inspirations from arcades the world over.
The neon glow remains, but you can see a high score leaderboard lit up on the wall as you boost around.
Center of Mass Adjusted on Select Car Bodies
Rocket League has already moved the hitbox position for several cars in a bid to feel more realistic. However, the team at Psyonix didn’t adjust the centre of mass, so it didn’t quite fulfil the intended effect.
It won’t affect gameplay, but these centre of gravity changes will help cars feel and behave more realistically. Here’s a list of affected vehicles:
- Formula 1 2021
- Formula 1 2022
- Lightning McQueen
- Ace
- Primo
- Fast and Furious Maza-RX7
