A pretty old tweet by user @Wario64 has managed to point out something funny and yet somehow impressive at the same time about the Valve employees.
On February 4, 2022, the user posted a screenshot showing that a hentai doujin romance game had been officially verified on Steam Deck, indicating that the Valve team had tested the game and it works perfectly on the handheld gaming device.
The Steam Deck Compatibility section includes all the things you would expect: it works on the default controller, Steam Deck icons are displayed correctly, interface text is readable, and graphics are smooth.
The internet did not fail to see the humour in this. The tweet is made even better with a meme attached to it. It is a joke that Valve workers are likely to be tired of trying the 57th furry hentai doujin romance game.
The meme takes a classic picture of a crying and exhausted man who says, I am tired, boss, which is the epitome of a person who is sick and tired of doing awkward game testing tasks, especially the adult genre.
To be frank, this is quite funny and even a bit of a good thing. Valve is obviously taking its work seriously.
They are not skimping out on the process of making sure that every game, even the most bizarre and hentai adult games, run smoothly on the Steam Deck.
Whereas most companies would be unlikely to come out and say that they test such games, Valve is simply going ahead and checking anything that is uploaded on their site.
But from the perspective of a QA tester at Valve, I can only imagine how surreal some days must be.
Testing bugs is one thing. Testing a romantic visual novel involving cat-eared anime characters on a handheld console is a whole different situation.
So, next time you see some really strange Steam Deck game, take a moment to appreciate the unsung heroes behind the scenes. They tested it so you don’t have to wonder if it works. They really earned that “tired, boss” moment.
