Wargaming announced its latest shooter during The Game Awards 2024, Steel Hunters. It fills a nice gap in Wargaming’s portfolio: the mech shooter.

You may know Wargaming best as the creators of World of Tanks and World of Warships. Now, the team is putting everything they know about machines of war into practice with Steel Hunters.

Check out the teaser trailer, which arrived during The Game Awards last night, for a taste of the game in action:

What’s Steel Hunters?

Steel Hunters is a multiplayer shooter by Wargaming, the makers of World of Tanks and World of Warships. It trades tanks and flying machines of death for mechs, which feature a range of different abilities.

In practice, it’s not too dissimilar to a more robotic Warframe. Each of the mechs appear to have different abilities, including popping up a shield, teleporting across the battlefield, or taking to the skies.

We see a host of different weaponry too, including rocket launchers, sniper rifles, machineguns, and pistols. That’s alongside explosive damaging abilities and the like.

In fact, there’s an air of Transformers about it, with a select few of the mechs transforming depending on the battle. Perhaps they want to get around faster, or need an explosion to help them escape.

Steel Hunters is in Closed Beta Right Now

Alongside its announcement at The Game Awards 2024, Wargaming confirmed that Steel Hunters is in closed beta as of right now. It will run until December 23, and you can register right now to participate.

There’s a free battle pass launching alongside it, which will provide rewards that remain in your account forever. So, if you want to show off that you were there first, it’s worth joining.

You can register for the Steel Hunters closed beta test on the official site.
