Soul Reapers are one of the main races in Type Soul and are a great choice for both new and experienced players. They’ve been in the game for a while, so their abilities and progression feel smooth and well-balanced.

To become a powerful Soul Reaper, you’ll need to go through a few steps. As you level up, you unlock stronger abilities like your Zanpakuto and eventually your Bankai. Let’s walk you through each stage of the Soul Reaper progression to give you a clear idea of whether it’s worth grinding this race.

Step 1: Enter Soul Society

To start off your progression, you want to go to Soul Society using your Senkmon. Access it by pressing N, go to “Next,” and then open your Senkmon gateway to Soul Society.

Once that’s equipped, head over to Soul Society unless you already spawned in there. If you don’t know what Soul Society looks like, it’s a traditional Japanese-styled city with lots of rooftops.

Step 2: Use the Mission Boards

Once inside, head to one of the mission boards. A quick way to find them is by pressing the comma ( , ) key on your keyboard. That shows all of the division leader locations.

You can choose whichever division you want, but for future reference, I recommend Division 8. It has the easiest mission, which you’ll use later on in this progression.

Go up to a mission board and click it. It will tell you that you’re currently not in a party. So, go over to the left and create a party. Then, click a mission to queue up. Once accepted, you’ll enter a mission to fight two or three Hollows.

There are some mission variants, but this is the main one you’ll grind. From Trainee up to Grade 3, these missions will be more than enough. Just kill the enemies, and you’ll probably rank up.

Step 3: Join a Division (Recommended: Division 12)

Eventually, you’ll get to a point where the game tells you to seek out a division to continue leveling up. This is where the comma key trick helps again press it to reveal all division leaders on your screen.

In my opinion, the best choice is Division 12 (the octopus-looking icon). Walk up to the leader and talk to him to start the division quest. His quest involves clicking on certain Hollows scattered around the map.

Once you click enough of them within the time limit, you’ll complete the quest and grade up. It can be time-consuming, but here’s a tip: minimize your game tab this makes the objective easier to complete.

Step 4: Unlock Your Shikai

Continue doing division quests until you hit Grade 2. You won’t be able to get past Grade 2 until you defeat your Shikai. To do that, meditate by pressing M.

Sit still and meditate for about 5–7 minutes. Eventually, you’ll automatically stand up. After that happens, meditate again. On the third meditation, you’ll be teleported into your Shikai world, where you fight your inner spirit.

Defeating your Shikai is pretty simple. Use your M1 attacks, then use your crit, dash back, and repeat. Avoid getting caught in combos they hurt.

I recommend rerolling your Shikai for an easier one (e.g., avoid Kyoka Suigetsu, which is harder to beat). Once you defeat your spirit, grip your Shikai, and congrats you now have Shikai!

To activate your Shikai in combat, press E, then press J. Now it’s time to unlock Vizard.

Step 5: Unlock Vizard

To get a Vizard, collect 10 Hogyoku Fragments. These can be obtained through trading, ranked, raids, and more. Once you have 10, just consume them by clicking them in your inventory.

Then, ask an Arrancar to open a Hueco Mundo portal. Head inside and find the Vizard NPC, kill them, and grip them. Once that’s done, you now have access to your Vizard mask.

From here, damage enemies to fill your Vizard bar. However, right now, your Vizard mask actually gives you a debuff instead of a buff. Why? Because you don’t yet have a True Vizard Mask your Hollow is still corrupting your body. Let’s talk about how to unlock the True Vizard mask.

Step 6: Get True Vizard Mask

Pay attention to the messages that appear on your screen while meditating after unlocking Vizard. You’ll get a list of three tasks:

  1. Win 3 raids with your Vizard mask on
  2. Grip 20 Soul Reapers (any grade)
  3. Grip your Shikai 15 times

Once all three are completed, you unlock True Vizard, which gives powerful buffs: increased Reiatsu regeneration, healing while fighting, and more. It’s significantly stronger than any regular mask or even True Vasto.

Now let’s move into the endgame progression: Bankai. To unlock Bankai, there are three stages. After you complete all of them, you’ll gain access to True Bankai.

Bankai Progression

Stage 1: Reach Elite Grade and win 13 raids. You can continue doing missions from the mission board, and once you’re a Vizard, you should be able to progress to Elite. Raids appear in servers. Just click the server list in the top left of your screen to see where raids are happening.

Stage 2: Return to your Shikai world, talk to your inner spirit, and complete their task:

  • Kill 1 BA (Bow Arrancar) in Hueco Mundo. Make sure you do at least 20% damage to get credit. If your money increases in the bottom-left corner, that confirms the kill.
  • Kill 80 Hollows. The fastest way is to go to Soul Society and do missions with a full party. More players = more Hollows. You can finish this in 20 minutes with a good group.
  • Get 15 Elite Grips. These are grips on players who are Elite Grade or higher. This includes Ranked and Raids. Or, just have a friend let you grip them 15 times way easier.

Important: You must do all of this without dying. If you die, you reset and must start over.

Once completed, talk to Kisuke. If he doesn’t let you enter his realm, it means you missed something. Go back and double-check all requirements.

If accepted, you’ll enter a realm where you must choose three correct Zanpakuto. Choosing two wrong ones means a 30-minute cooldown. Alternatively, you can grip an opposite-race player to retry immediately.

Bankai Fight Strategy

This fight is way harder than your Shikai battle. Your opponent is using Bankai and you’re not.

Here’s what to do:

  • Max out Speed
  • Learn the following moves:
Blooming Cut, Flash Step, Flash Step Mastery I & II, Floating Strikes, Perfect Flash Step, Waterfall Dance

Your strategy is to land moves, then flash step away. A single combo can kill you, so don’t let your ego take over. Stay patient. This fight can take 5–10 minutes, but if you stay mobile and play safe, you’ll win.

Congratulations you now have Bankai in Type Soul!

True Bankai – What We Know So Far

Right now, we don’t have much information on True Bankai, but here’s what we do know:

There’s an NPC named ENKT that you need to talk to. He helps you unlock your True form whether that’s True Bankai, True Segunda, etc. Talking to him takes you into the Hellverse, where your True Mode questline begins.

We don’t yet know the exact requirements, but once they’re discovered, I’ll update the article accordingly. We also don’t know if this quest involves items or rituals but we do know you must already have Bankai before starting.

What’s the Best True Bankai?

Based on leaks and logic, True Kyoka Suigetsu is expected to be the strongest. It was powerful in the anime, and the devs usually buff characters with high “aura” or presence. So Aizen’s True Bankai might dominate the meta.

Recommended Skill Trees

  • For now, Soul Reaper Kido is one of the best trees.
  • However, I personally believe Soul Reaper Kendo might be stronger with True Bankai.
  • For regular Shikai/Bankai, I recommend either Kyoka Suigetsu or Duality. Both are versatile, easy to use, and solid for PvP and PvE.

But at the end of the day use what you like.
