War Thunder has introduced the KV-7 U-13, a new tank to celebrate its 12th birthday. You can now win the tank as the main reward for War Thunder’s ‘Dreams Come True’ event. That kicks off today.
The KV-13 was an experimental soviet tank, developed in 1941 to replace the T34 medium and KV1 heavy tanks. Let’s dive into some of the strengths and weaknesses of this unusual prototype:
Three turrets consisting of one 76mm and two 45mm
The KV-7 boasts a powerful F-34 cannon, firing 76mm munitions. It also includes a pair of 45mm 20-K cannons. Yes – you can fire all three cannons at the same time.
Powerful Armour
With the KV-7 being developed based on the KV-1, the two share the same hull. This provides great side protection and over 100mm thick hull armour plating.
The KV-7 does face some of the same weaknesses that were present in the KV-1. That includes limited firing angles due to the drivers port and casemate front.
Armour-Piercing, High-Explosive Shells
APHE rounds include a small chamber of high-explosive filler within the round. That can cause significantly more damage to a vehicle, which is especially effective against thick armour.
If you’ve used Soviet vehicles before you’ve likely already come across the BR-350 rounds that are fired from the 76MM cannon.

Weaknesses
A weakness of the KV-1 which is also seen in the KV-7 is it’s average mobility, it boasts just enough speed to get into useful positions but may not be as mobile as a T34.
The KV-7 also offers fairly poor gun elevation and depression contributing to limited firing angles on the battlefield.
Conclusion: It’s a Solid Tank
Players who are experienced with soviet ground forces will be happy to see this monstrous new addition to the battlefield, the KV-7 will fit well with lineups at ranks ||-|||.
For those new to Soviet vehicles, the KV-7 will be a great introduction and research ranks I to IV.
