You can finally check out the upcoming Warframe: 1999 via a demo on Steam. It features a wealth of references to your favourite decade, including boyband hair styles, CRT TVs, old school weaponry, and Matrix-style Atomicycle bikes.

The city environment even looks like an alternate universe in which the world ended due to an apocalypse during the 90s. There’s even a brand new music track to celebrate the launch, and it sounds like something straight out of the 90s.

Check out the demo of Warframe: 1999 and you can earn yourself the Protokol Longsword Skin for free, which you can use in the OG version of Warframe. We’re not sure we even want to go back to that one now.

How Can I Play the Demo?

To check out the new update, you do have to have made considerable progress within Warframe itself. This includes beating all story quests up to The Lotus Eaters. Digital Extremes has put together a handy quest guide to help you figure out where you are.

You also need to have the Railjack and Necramech. You can unlock these by beating the Rising Tide and Heart of Deimos quests respectively.

What’s Warframe: 1999?

1999 is the latest expansion for Warframe. It features a time-travelling new plot, the motorbike-like Atomicycle, and a new location that takes place in the 90s.

Without going into spoiler territory, we’ll learn a lot about the genesis of Warframes in this update, which is exciting. You will also encounter new characters, some of which may have provided the inspiration for future Warframes.

Why is There a Song?

Well, that’s just a bit of fun. Digital Extremes released the song at TennoCon 2024 and the fans seemed to love it. You can listen to it yourself via the YouTube link above.
