Denuvo vs Steam DRM Comparison: Why Gamers Don’t Want Denuvo?
To understand why this matters, it’s essential to understand how Denuvo works. In layman language, Denuvo is a software protection that helps publishers to prevent people ripping and pirating their games immediately after release.
The motivation behind it is that the more difficult it is to crack, the safer early sales will be and the less cash the devs will lose to piracy. That is a great idea on paper, but Denuvo has gained a lot of hatred amongst gamers due to its ability to tank performance.
In other words, if the game has Denuvo protection, gamers will notice a decrease in performance. As a result, they’ll encounter issues like stuttering, low FPS, etc.
Denuvo also requires a permanent internet connection which means you can’t play the game in offline mode. This is why many players believe that the trade-off in performance and freedom isn’t worth it, especially since most Denuvo games eventually get cracked anyway.
Steam DRM is however much more acceptable. This protection is built into nearly all the games you purchase on Steam. It works by making the game bound to your Steam account and therefore, only you can play it unless you give your whole Steam account to another person.
If we compare it with Denuvo, Steam DRM does not usually affect performance, and you can play your games on any computer by simply logging in to your account. You do require an internet connection to download and activate a game the first time, but Steam has an offline mode as well, allowing you to play without being connected to the net after you have set it up.
