Out of absolutely nowhere, Fortnite has released four official themed SpongeBob islands that you can experience right now. Speculation is now rampant on X about whether an official skin is set to follow.
We’ll embed the official trailer below so you can check out a taste of the islands in action. There’s a platforming challenge, prop hunt, melee-focused slap fight, and a more traditional team deathmatch.

What Are the SpongeBob Islands in Fortnite?
There are four islands in total:
- SpongeBob Red vs Blue
- Bikini Bottom Only Up
- Bikini Bottom Prop Hnt
- SpongeBob Slap Fight
Here’s how they work.
SpongeBob Red vs Blue
Red vs Blue is a straightforward team deathmatch mode that sees you battle as either Team Krusty Krab or Team Chum Bucket to see who is the best.
You drop into a custom zero build arena that features four super powers, a Jelly Blaster to shoot the opposition with, and an objective: get to 25 wins before the opposition.
You can also find SpongeBob, Patrick, or Squidward for an additional reward.

Bikini Bottom Only Up
Only Up is a platforming challenge that plays like Chained Together or any of those other vertical climbing games that have dropped over the past few years.
You have to escape from Rock Bottom and climb to the very top of the island, utilising mantling, bouncing, and flying. Go it alone or invite your friends along for the ride.
Along the way, you an find Gary the snail for additional rewards.

Bikini Bottom Prop Hunt
Prop Hunt is basically hide-and-seek with a twist. You have to scour Bikini Bottom seeking other players who are hiding as ordinary objects. There’s a timer, so you have to be quick.
You can play with between 2 or 20 players, with one team playing as seekers and the other as props. There are a number of custom SpongeBob-themed props to use, and secret hiding spots.

SpongeBob Slap Fight
Last, but certainly not least, we have Slap Fight. This sees you trying to collect and hold onto a Krabby Patty while all other players are doing the same.
The problem? You can slap your opponents to knock it out of their hands, or they can do the same to you. If you’re feeling particularly cruel, you can slap them out of the map entirely.
There are three arenas to play this mode in, and you can upgrade your slap as you go along.
