Nexon has just unleashed the first official trailer for the highly-anticipated season 2 of The First Descendant. Alongside this, an hour-long borderline documentary highlighting season 2 content and a full roadmap dropped on YouTube.
First, the most important announcement: The First Descendant season 2 will launch on December 5. It will introduce new Descendants, dungeons, bosses, and expand the plot. Well, as much as there is a plot in The First Descendant.
Season 2 goes by the name Void Chaser, and here’s everything we know about it so far.
New Descendants: Keelan Ayodele
Two new Descendants will arrive in season 2: Keelan Ayodele and
Keelan is a H.O.U.N.D. Descendant who specialises in Toxic damage, remaining airborne during combat, and whipping around at speed with his Dash skill.
To unlock Keelan, you need to play through the new dungeon, which we’re calling Stranded Void Vessel. Scroll down to read more about that!
Ultimate Sharen and Story Content
The story of season 2 will pick up where Freyna’s left off, and focus on Sharen this time as she confronts her nemesis. Yes, that of course means we will get the more powerful Ultimate variant of Sharen.
Alongside this, you can unlock two new Ultimate Skill Modules especially for Sharen that will help her in battle:
Ultimate Module | Effect |
Area Suppression | Throw Shortswords in a 360 degree circle, damaging enemies. Critical hits reduce its cooldown. |
Ambushed | Increases the effects of skills and their cooldown when used from stealth. Kill an enemy while in stealth and it reapplies stealth. |
In addition to this, traps will no longer apply to Sharen while she’s in stealth, making her the perfect scout in trap-filled environments.
While details are quite thin on the ground, we know the plot of season 2 will focus on Sharen reclaiming her humanity after turning part robot. That’ll do it!
We mentioned the storytelling hasn’t been great so far during the opening paragraphs, and Nexon seems keen to address that. So far, the team is deciding whether to release more Descendant stories at a rapid pace, or focus on unleashing more main story content.
You can help with that direction by providing feedback. Go shout at Nexon to do more of what you want on Discord.
Main Story Content
In addition to Sharen’s story, brand new main story content will launch that runs parallel to the events of the main story. It sees you investigating an abnormal signal detected in the Void Abyss while tracking Ironheart.
Here, you will encounter a ‘Void Vessel’ alongside new character, Keelan. Remember we mounted H.O.U.N.D. earlier? Well, these guys specialise in investigating events like this.
You may just encounter brand new enemies that will have an impact on the future of the main story.
Vulgus Legion Boss: Dread Armour
An interesting new boss encounter will arrive during season two, and it’s the Vulgus Legion head honcho itself. Dread Armour is unique in that the weapons it uses changes as the battle develops.
That will keep you on your toes, and force you to change your strategy the further into the fight you get.
Here’s how the fight works so far:
- Phase 1: Pistol and Shield
- Phase 2: Dual Shields in melee
- Phase 3: Dual Handguns
Not only that, but Nexon wants to keep introducing new monster types and mechanics for both bosses and regular field monsters. If you find the game too easy, this is music to your ears.
New Dungeon: Stranded Void Vessel
Okay, we made that name up as that’s the description of the dungeon. Nexon hasn’t announced the official name yet.
The best part? This dungeon isn’t just for endgame players. In fact, you can tackle it regardless of where you are in the story, provided you’re at least Mastery level 8.
There’s also a Normal and Hard difficulty, which you can expect. What you won’t expect though is that this dungeon changes every time you play it, and we’re utterly delighted to hear that.
Why? Well, it solves the problem of elite players moaning if you don’t know the mechanics. Guess what, buddy: no one does!
Sharen will be particularly useful in this dungeon, as drones scout around that summon more enemies if they spot you. Fortunately, Sharen can just sneak over and disable them.
The final boss is Dread Armour, which we introduced earlier.
Lastly, you will face enemies that have unique shields this time around that you can only destroy using skills and elemental attacks. Keep the new mechanics coming, folks!
New Ultimate Weapons and Balancing Changes
There’s a brand new Beam Laser Rifle called Voltia in Season 2, and you can grab it in the Battle Pass if you don’t want to farm for it.
Voltia is like the weapon variant of Bunny, in that when you hit an enemy, the damage bounces to all nearby enemies. It’s also the only weapon that can damage Void Shields, so it’s probably going to be quite overpowered at launch.
Also, Ultimate Weapons no longer receive a penalty if they aren’t Unique Level 4. Instead, you can just gain the full effects of them from level 0. Huzzah!
New Pets: Dogs!
This is the most exciting new feature in season two as far as we’re concerned. You can now unlock pet dogs who will follow you into combat.
Of course, you can interact with your pet in a variety of different ways, like stroking them, or teaching them tricks.
You can customise your dog’s fur and skin colour, as well as equip them with torso and head attachments. These seem to primarily be cosmetic in nature though, so don’t expect them to help you in combat.
Your pet dog is a good dog though, as it will run around gathering the loot that you haven’t picked up yet. That will allow you to just focus on combat, instead of having to run around like a robot hoover.
Lastly, you can automatically dismantle certain items the moment you pick them up, and there are a bunch of filters you can assign to ensure you don’t accidentally destroy something you actually need.
