League of Legends 14.21 is here, and with it a whole host of buffs and nerfs. In fact, most of the patch notes detail the latest tweaks for your favourite champions. There’s a small section at the bottom dedicated to ARAM, the Ultimate Spellbook, and, perhaps most excitingly, some new Skins and Chromas.

The update arrives at a somewhat challenging time for League of Legends, as Riot Games has just unveiled a new gacha system for champions. This could see you fork out $250 for just a single skin. In more positive news, League of Legends Worlds 2024 is officially more popular with the esports viewership than Valorant Champions.

Let’s take a look at the League of Legends 14.21 patch notes in more detail.

League and Legends 14.21 Patch Notes – Buffs and Nerfs

Let’s start with the bit that you all care about: the champions getting buffs and nerfs. We’ve kept it all to bullet points to make it easier to parse, and won’t spend ages waffling on about each individual tweak.

Buffs

  • Azir
    • Health Regen: 5-7
    • Attack Damage: 52 – 56
  • Corki
    • Hextech Munitions: Bonus True Damage increased from 15% – 20%
    • Valkyrie: Maximum damage increased from 150 – 450 to 200 – 500 and bonus AD increased from +150% – 200%
    • Missile Barrage: Damage increased by 80 – 240 to 90 – 250 and bonus AD from +70% – +80%
  • Gangplank
    • Mana Regen: Increased from 7.5 – 8
    • E-Powder Keg: Recharge time decreased from 18 – 14 to 17 – 13
  • Irelia
    • Bladesurge: Cooldown reduced from 11 – 7 to 10 – 6, Mana from 20 – 15, damage AD bonus increased from +60% to +70%, and bonus damage to minions reduced from 50 – 259 to 50 – 237
    • Vanguard’s Edge: Bladesurge cooldown reduction has been removed
  • Kayle
    • Celestial Blessing: Mana Cost reduced from 90-130 to 70-90
  • Malphite
    • Base Health: Increased from 644 – 665
  • Nilah
    • Formless Blade: Now deals damage instantly in the area and the auto attack won’t cancel when the buff runs out

    • Rake: return damage increased from 50 – 170 to 60 – 180 with a bonus AD of +90%, up from +80%
  • Teemo
    • Base Health: increased from 598 – 615
    • Move Quick: bonus movement speed increased from 10 – 26% to 12 – 28% and active bonus movement speed increased from 20 – 52% to 24 – 56%
  • Xayah
    • Deadly Plumage: Bonus Strike Damage increased from 20% – 25%

Nerfs

  • Aurelion Sol
    • Base Health: 620 – 600
    • E-Singularity: reduced AP bonus from +80% to +60%
  • Brand
    • Mana Regen: 10.65 – 9
    • Detonation Damage: reduced from 9 – 13% to 8 – 12%
  • Camille
    • Base Health: 670 – 650
    • Tactical Sweep: Minimum damage decreased from 70 – 190 to 50 – 150
    • E-Wall Dive: Bonus AD reduced from +90% – +75%
  • Elise
    • Armor Growth: Reduced from 5.2 – 4.5
  • Fiddlesticks
    • Terrify: Damage reduced from 6 – 10% of target’s health to 5 – 9%, and Amp Damage from 12 – 20% to 10 – 18%

    • Thousand Cuts: damage reduced from 0.72% per 100 AP of target’s maximum health to 06% per 100 AP

    • Requiem: Magic damage bonus AP reduced from +75% – +70%

    • Null Sphere: Magic damage bonus AP reduced from +70% to +60%
    • E-Force Pulse: Bonus AP reduced from +70% to +65%
  • Nasus
    • Soul Eater: Life steal reduced from 12 – 24% to 9 – 21%
    • Siphoning Strike: Bonus damage reduced from 40 – 120 to 35 – 115

    • Armor: decreased from 28 – 25

Swain Overhaul

We’re moving Swain to a whole separate section because Riot has changed the character at a fundamental level. If this is one of your mains, you’re going to need to spend some time learning what’s different.

Base Stats

  • Health Regen: reduced from 7 +0.65 to 3 +0.5
  • Mana: Reduced from 468 – 400
  • Mana regen: increased from 8 – 10

Abilities

  • Ravenous Flock: Healing is now linear from 3 – 6% max HP
  • Death’s Hand:
    • Mana Cost: reduced from 45 – 65 to 40 – 60
    • One Bolt Damage: changed from 65 – 145 to 60 – 160 with AP bonus increased from +40% to +45%
    • Extra Bolt Damage: changed to 25% of initial hit
    • Maximum Damage: reduced from 125 – 365 to 120 – 320 with a boost in AP bonus from +80% to +90%
  • Vision of Empire:
    • Damage: reduced from 80 – 220 to 70 – 210 with an increase in AP bonus from +55% to +60%
    • Slow Duration: reduced from 2.5 – 1.5
    • Slow: increased from 25 – 65% to 50 – 70%
    • Reveal Duration: Now fixed at 6
  • Nevermore:
    • Cooldown: Now scales from 14 – 10
    • Mana: now scales from 60 – 80
    • Outgoing missile speed: changed from 935 – 2,735 – 1,125 – 1,800
    • Outgoing Missile Travel Time: Now fixed at 0.6
    • Return missiled speed: changed from 600 – 2,200 to 2,000 – 2,800
    • Return Missile Speed Travel Time: Now fixed at 0.4
    • Return Missile Width: Increased from 170 – 180
    • Maximum Damage: changed from 70 – 250 to 80 – 240 with a bonus AP increase from +50% to +60%
    • Pass Through Damage: Removed
    • Detonation Damage: Changed from 35 – 75 to 80 – 240 with a bonus AP increase from +25% to +60%
  • Demonic Ascension:
    • Cooldown: Now fixed at 120
    • Demonflare Damage: Increased from 150 – 300 to 150 – 350 with an AP bonus decrease from +60% to +50%
    • Demonflare Decaying Slow: Increased from 60% – 75%
    • Damage per Second: Reduced from 20 – 60 to 15 – 35 with an AP bonus decrease from +10% to +5%
    • Heal per Second: Changed from 15 – 40 to 15 – 45 with an AP bonus decrease from +18% to +5% and an added +1.25% Bonus HP
    • E Coodlwon Reduction: Removed

Champion Bounties Tweaks

Riot Games is overhauling the bounties system with patch 14.21 to make it behave more like it should. The long and short of it is, bounties will, broadly, provide less total gold and favour the losing team more often.

To achieve this, Riot Games has tweaked the system so that bounties are based on gold earned and lost, rather than K/D streaks. Gold from champion-specific sources now never contribute to champion bounties, and they accumulate granularly, rather than having a big massive bounty just dumped on your head.

Objective Bounties Changes

Objective Bounties have received similar changes. Riot is trying to ensure they appear slightly more often and in more appropriate situations, but pay out less gold.

In brief, Void Grubs now contribute, experience differences contribute less, and gold differences contribute more. You will also see turret and drake differences contribute a bit more, and the bounties will deactivate quicker if you start to mount a comeback.

New League of Legends Skins and Chromas

Yay, new skins! Who doesn’t love it when League of Legends drops a new skin? We’ve included images of all of them below. Top to bottom, left to right, they’re called:

  • Dark Cosmic Diana
  • Prestige Dark Cosmic Diana
  • Dark Star Kai’Sa
  • Dark Star Sylas
  • Dark Star Yorick
  • Dark Star Zoe

All of the above, aside from Prestige Dark Cosmic Diana, also get a series of Chromas.

Items and Runes Buffs and Nerfs

There are a couple of buffs and nerfs for items this month. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Sorcerer’s Shoes: Magic Penetration reduced from 15 – 12
  • Blade of the Ruined King: Mist’s Edge reduced from 10%/6% to 8%/5% melee/ranged damage respectively

Just one Rune has received a bit of a buff:

  • Lethal Tempo: Melee attack speed per stack increased 5% – 6%

Aram Changes

Again, the tweaks are super small here. Soraka and Ivern have been buffed, while Nilah and Xerath have been nerfed. We also see a slight buff to the Kraken Slayer item.

  • Soraka: Damage taken 100% – 97%
  • Ivern: Damage dealt 90% – 95%
  • Nilah: Damage dealt 100% – 97%
  • Xerath: Damage dealt 95% – 93%
  • Kraken Slayer: Range modifier increased 80% – 90%

Ultimate Spellbook

There are mostly buffs for the Ultimate Spellbook, but a few nerfs do make the cut.

The following champions have seen their R Bonus Ability Haste increased from 35 – 45:

  • Ryze
  • Kindred
  • Vel’Koz
  • Renata

Meanwhile, Xayah’s R Ratio Multiplayer has been increased from .8 -.9.

In the buffs department, Akali and Smolder have seen a damage buff (+10% and +5% respectively) while their damage taken is reduced by -5%.

Briar, Master Yi, and Volibear have all seen nerfs. Damage dealt has been reduced by -10% for Briar and Master Yi, and -5% for Volibear. Damage taken has been increased by +5% across the board, along with -5% healing for Briar and Volibear.
