Old School RuneScape has announced that the OSRS Mobile anniversary update has been delayed until November 6. It was originally supposed to arrive on October 9, but has been pushed back so the team can focus on improving the new features and squishing bugs.

What’s in the OSRS Mobile Anniversary Update?

The update will introduce a number of quality of life features that will help make playing on mobile a lot smoother. This includes Tile Markers, which highlights tiles you can interact with, and Custom Hotkeys, which pretty much does what it says on the tin.

Perhaps most excitingly is the Menu Entry Swapper, which allows you to customise the default click/right click option with any other. You can set this for any action within the game, saving you a ton of time for various activities.

Coincidentally, it’s this function that’s proven the most troublesome. Jagex wants to make sure it’s perfect in time for the next League, so has delayed it until then to make sure it’s as smooth as possible.

Why is Jagex Making These Changes?

Jagex held interviews with regular OSRS Mobile players to determine the pain points when playing on phone or tablet. These interviews informed the above three changes.

The key goal was to bring as much parity between the mobile and desktop versions of the game, so you don’t feel like you’re playing an inferior product when chilling on the sofa playing OSRS on your phone.

Previous efforts to marry the experiences include Agility Highlights, Ground Items, and the Clue Scroll Helper. Slowly but surely, Jagex is getting there with the mobile port.

What’s Next For OSRS?

OSRS has received a ton of attention from Jagex lately. September 26 saw the arrival of Varlamore: The Rising Darkness, introducing an expended map, the Mixology Alchemy activity, a new boss, Hueycoatl, and an agility course.

Mere days later, OSRS provided an update that tweaked all aspects of the update, responding to player feedback. Most attention was paid to Hueycoatl and Mixology.

As of October 4, OSRS is hosting an open beta for upcoming changes to Guardians of the Rift. This will basically make it a heck of a lot easier to participate in the event, and help reduce fail states when you do.
