Old School RuneScape has unleashed its first major Varlamore update, tweaking Mixology, Hueycoatl, and the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course. There are also the usual squished bugs, quality of life fixes, and the like.
Let’s start with Mixology. Jagex has completely overhauled potion level requirements and the XP you gain for completing them. The broad strokes are that you now unlock a new potion every three levels and gain more points and XP for mixing them.
That’s not the case for every potion though – some produce less XP and points than before, but that seems to be a rarity.
There’s a host of additional changes designed to balance out the change in XP or points, or quality of life. The cap for Mox, Aga, and Lye past is now up to 3,000 from 300, for example, and Digweed spawn rates now scale with your Herblore level.

What’s Going on With Hueycoatl?
The changes to Hueycoatl aren’t quite as extensive as Mixology, and focus more on quality of life. First, Jagex has removed the ability to attack the serpent’s tail using ranged attacks from the arena entrance. That just feels like cheating.
The team has also reduced the contribution value for those that skip the first phase of the fight. That should encourage more of you to get involved from the off.
Rounding up the changes, the Prayer Pillar mechanic will now stay active during the tail attack phase. Group Iron Men won’t lose prestige for kills with those of you not in their group, and you can now see when your contribution is too low to get loot.

Colossal Wyrm Agility Course Gets Reduced Amylase Packs Cost
That’s right: Jagex has reduced the Amylase pack cost from 200 Termites to 100. This allows you to earn much more for less effort.
The section now turns green in your Collection Log, too, which will please the completionists among you. You can also store the Varlamorean Graceful Outfit in the POH Costume Room, and revert it back to standard when using it on Osten.
Simple stuff.
Anything Else?
Nothing quite as exciting as the above, but you can now find S.T.A.S.H. units at the Treasure Trail steps at Twilight Temple, Costume Needle now works with Xerician Fabric, and the Frost Crab’s loot table is now more “thematically fitting”.
The Butler’s Tray is now two-handed, and Jagex has fixed a bug where you could smuggle items in or out of restricted areas using Dizana’s Quiver.
Overall, a very big and impactful update. Go ahead and check it out on Steam, Google Play, or the App Store.
