It’s official: Throne and Liberty is a smash hit. But that’s not to say the release date has been and gone without a hitch. There have been many, in fact, but NCSoft has been relatively quick to address them. Just yesterday, on October 3, the game was down for extended maintenance to squish a bunch of bugs.

In an open letter to the community, NCSoft has addressed a number of issues we’ve all faced so far. Most importantly, the team is keen to stress the progress they’ve made in fixing them.

The Throne and Liberty Server Issues Are Almost a Thing of the Past

The infamous Throne and Liberty server instability is first up, with NCSoft pointing to disconnects, black screens, and login loops. Work is still ongoing to fix these, but apparently the number of occurrences have drastically reduced. In a nice touch, NCSoft highlighted that the issues are more prominent in Europe, which echoes sentiment on the official Reddit.

Another issue we’re hoping is resolved is the frustrating ‘Cannot Create Character Error 10’. This cropped up a lot during the first few days, and the cause is the server selection screen not updating fast enough. That resulted in servers appearing to have a good capacity, but actually being full. Oops!

NCSoft will periodically increase the player cap for all servers, so you should have a chance to join the same one as your friends in the near future. There’s no timeline on this though, and the team is keen to stress that they’re holding back to keep queue times down.

Hello Bugs, Meet Hammer

The rest is kind of lesser issues. NCSoft is investigating the friends list disappearance, and, apparently, the bugs plaguing the Auction House have all been squished. You might have noticed that you can’t post items, or that items would claim to have sold but haven’t. That’s all gone now.

A particularly frustrating bug that reset your custom game settings each time you login has improved for some, but not all, players. This was due to server load, so the team has rolled out more.

Finally, the Throne and Liberty team has acknowledged that not all Amazon Games ID linking rewards have rolled out yet. The team is investigating but is yet to find the issue, so have started manually granting the missing rewards to players in batches. That’s a pretty nice move.

TLDR: Throne and Liberty is Too Popular

After reading the community letter in full, the primary issue seems to be that NCSoft and the Throne and Liberty team simply didn’t anticipate how successful the game was going to be. Most of the issues involve server load issues, and have been resolved by introducing more servers. It’s a nice problem to have, ultimately.

In other news, Throne and Liberty unleashed a number of ‘Celebration Packs‘ the day after launch (October 2). These are quite expensive, but provide a number of nifty cosmetics to those who purchase them.

Now that many of the issues are over, you can safely check out Throne and Liberty on SteamPlayStation, or Xbox. To help you get up to speed, check out our Throne and Liberty tier list and Throne and Liberty classes and weapons guides.
