We didn’t expect this, but the Game Awards 2024 was absolutely full to the brim with free to play gaming announcements. That includes brand new games, release dates, and closed betas.

We’ve rounded up everything we learned about below, so you can check it out in one space. We’ve also included links to each of our separate stories, in case you’d like to learn more.

Splitgate 2 Gets a New Trailer

We’ve known about Splitgate 2 for some time, but we learned a heck a lot more about it last night. It looks incredibly flashy, with the portal-hopping madness doubling down on intensity this time around.

The colour palette, Unreal Tournament-style weapon options, and the sheer pace of combat make this one well worth keeping an eye on for 2025.

Warframe: 1999 Gets a Release Date: Today!

Out of nowhere, Digital Extremes announced Warframe: 1999’s release date, and it’s the very day after The Game Awards 2024. That’s today, or December 13, depending on where you live in the world.

Warframe: 1999 rolls back the clock to the 90s, providing wild haircuts, motorcycles, and a whole new enemy to battle.

Fragpunk Also Gets a Release Date

If you’re looking for a new free to play shooter, look no further than Fragpunk. This one lets you change the rules of battle on the fly, with the use of Shard Cards that alter a variety of mechanics.

Also confirmed is the fact those will be free forever when it launches in 2025.

Steel Hunters is a New Mech Shooter by the Makers of World of Tanks

It’s about time that Wargaming turned its hand to mechs, and that’s exactly what we’re getting with Steel Hunters. It’s still explosive, with giant machines of death to wield in battle, but it does look very much like its own thing.

It’s in closed beta right now on PC if you’d like to check it out. You can even earn some exclusive cosmetic rewards that carry forward into the final product.

A still from the Game of Thrones: Kingsroad trailer.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is a New Action RPG by Netmarble

This is an odd one: Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is launching on mobile next year. It’s a story-driven action RPG by Netmarble, who usually make free to play MMORPGs.

There’s a class system for combat and you can team up with your favourite characters, but we don’t know much about it other than that.
