You know when your favourite game adds an incredible new item and you’re having lots of fun with it? Well, wouldn’t it suck if the developer then went ahead and removed it? That’s exactly what’s just happened in Fortnite, as Epic Games has removed the jetpack.
Well, it’s War Machine’s Hover Jets to be specific. The item has been vaulted to make way for the return of Shuri’s Black Panther Claws. All of this happened alongside the Fortnitemares 2024 update, which does add a heck of a lot more than it takes away. Still, it stings to lose such an awesome item.

What’s the Fortnite Jetpack?
War Machine’s Hover Jets arrived in Fortnite alongside the Chapter 5: Season 4 update on August 15, giving us a mere two months to enjoy it.
The jetpack allowed you to double tap jump to fly through the air. Heck, you could even fire weapons, use healing items, or troll your opponents with an emote or two. If you needed to go fast, you could use sprint to use the boost.
You couldn’t use it infinitely though. It had a ‘Magazine Size’ of 100, which is basically how much fuel it had. There is a chance you could find it multiple times in a match though, so there was plenty of use in it.

Are Jetpacks Still in Fortnite?
War Machine’s Hover Jets have now been vaulted as of Update v31.40. It probably will make a comeback in the future, so we all just have to be patient. Sniff.
Recently, Ball-R wheels suddenly started vanishing from player’s accounts too. Fortunately, that is a bug that will be resolved though.
Still, there’s plenty of new stuff to grab as part of Update v31.40. You can even grab yourself a free in-game cosmetic via a Twitch giveaway. If you’re a fan of Rocket Racing, there’s a full rank reset for that. Oh, and LEGO Fortnite has a new Brick or Treat battle pass and Chasers vs Hunters island.
